The community of Amolatar Secondary School in Amolatar district is in shock and left mourning the sudden death of Kawesa Augustin, a Senior Six student who passed on Tuesday evening after a sudden illness.
Denish Patrick Odur Obia, the headteacher of the school confirmed to Kioga FM in a telephone interview that Augustin visibly appeared weak and unwell on Friday, August 14, 2026, when they broke off for holidays.
Mr.Odur Obia, narrated that Kawesa who hails from Buyende district had lost a lot of weight recently but never complained of any ill health but on returning back home, his condition deteriorated and further worsened on Tuesday evening, prompting relatives to rush him to Kamuli general Hospital for emergency treatment.
At the hospital, medical personnel reportedly placed him on oxygen support for about two hours as they attempted to stabilize his condition. However, despite the efforts, Augustin breathed his last afterwards.
Medical reports indicate that the student had been unknowingly suffering from diabetes and was now at a very advanced stage.
By press time, the headteacher and six other staffs including Mr. Bateganya, a teacher at Amolatar Secondary School and brother to the deceased student had returned back home after failing to find the BKK Ferry that plies Bukungu in Buyende to Akampala in Kaberamaido district to travel for Kawesa burial.
The team sent only two staff members to cross Lake Kyoga on a boat to go and represent the school while the rest returned back on learning that the ferry has not operated for the past two days and won’t operate on Thursday again.
