Lango regional health assembly joint performance review mission currently underway at Gracious Palace Hotel in Lira City has resolved to have all sickle cell patient’s clans identified and traced back to three traditional dominant clans of Arak, Atek and Okarowok.
Dr. Andrew Odur, the senior executive consultant and Lira Regional Referral hospital director told the assembly that the disease is beyond a crisis in Lango, that the assembly must get a lasting solution to.
He asked all hospitals operating sickle cell clinics in Lango, including regional Referral where 1,062 sickle cell patients visits weekly for treatment, to start registering their clans to be linked traditional dominant clans of Arak, Atek and Okarowok.
Dr. Odur has linked the rampant sickle cell cases in Lango to splitting of the then three dominant clans to the 176 clans today I. Lango, expressing fears that many more may still split in the coming days.
“Science does not lie…… Gene pool of any Lango clan do link up to the three dominant clans..” said Dr. Odur.
Francis Okello Odoki Rwotlonyo, the RDC Amolatar in his opening remarks did call for concerted efforts to address the escalating sickle cell crisis in Lango nowadays.
Rwotlonyo also used the same assembly to caution cyclists especially Boda boda riders against reckless road usage resulting into numerous road carnages in the region.
“A civil servant will get his or her gratuity and other benefits if killed in a road crash, but a boda boda rider won’t, leaving his widow and children in grate suffering….” said Rwotlonyo.
The two day assembly that’s runs through Tuesday and Wednesday is having in attendance all RDCs, LC V, DHOs, CAOs, public health officers, business community representation, national medical stores, ministry of health officials and media.
